Hello beautiful people, I am testing YouTube livestream for a virtual coffee hangout events that might be an ongoing thingy on this channel or perhaps not. But for now, I would like to test this. Watch me having coffee, play guitar and chill. I will try make it a 15 mins test for this one.
Music is perspective. It is based on our opinions, what we feeling at that moment or where we are at. At the gym, up tempo music sound great. But not perfect for a wind down evening. At least in my opinion. Majority of jazz music is consume as a classy ballroom function sort of thing, that was once a dance music. Bob Dylan sang, “For the times they are a-changin'.” He is right. Jazz is not viewed as dance music anymore. We have harder beat driven music for that now. And reggae and bossa nova music is just perfect for those at the beach or being cozy and lazy. You get the point.
What I am trying to say is that every music is beautiful depending on the situation what we are in. Music is the soundtrack of our lives. It just igniting a feeling that we are vibing. That brings me to how to consume my performance music videos on YouTube.
Those performance music videos I uploaded on YouTube is made for non active watching and more of in the background. I personally call it cafe music. Made for slow mornings, drinking coffee, tea or any beverages, anything that is cafe related, wind down evening, chilling at the beach or simply a lazy, cozy and relaxing moments. Best served in a playlist situation. You may save it in to your YouTube music playlist or just play The Chillax Session playlist below.
At the end of 2025, I was “robbed” of my stage name, Mellow Blues. Someone, some band or some AI have decided to release music under that name. I strongly believe it is AI music. Of course that's not a fact, just gut feeling. Prior to that, I am already on a losing battle on the name, I believe some AI music have started using the name Mellow Blues as their own. Mostly on YouTube videos. Yes sure, the name Mellow Blues can be used if you describing that kind of jam, video or song. If you are using it to describe what you are doing and human. That's fair. But the artist name belong to me.
Let's go back to 2019 when I decided to go solo. I wanted a stage name that would describe what I wanted to do. Somewhere in the lines of Eric Clapton's acoustic and blues pop style. Blues based guitar and not strictly blues songs. Further more, most modern blues artists doesn't really sound like the old school blues. Listen to Samantha Fish, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales etc. John Mayer won't classified himself as blues. But there is too much jazz & blues elements that make me check him out and most probably introduce blues guitar to a younger and mainstream audience. So I figured, after doing research on the name, I would use Mellow Blues as my artist name to entice modern blues listeners that is pretty much expose to John Mayer's music and other modern day blues heroes and heroines. What further convince me is The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. They are definitely not a blues band per se, but in my ears they do have tons of blues elements.
With all that had happened, I decided that I will stop using the name Mellow Blues. Moving forward, I will be using the name Yat Mellow Blues. Guess I am still feeling nostalgic with the stage name. But hey,it is still much easier to search for me on YouTube and Google etc. I have remove all my songs from all streaming platform to mark the end of that era. *At the time of writing, it is still in progress.*
I am recording new versions of the previous songs, writing and recording new songs. It will be jazz and blues guitar-centric pop songs with beachside cafe vibes. Think of it as a combination of Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Norah Jones and perhaps, a little bit of Tom Misch's jazzy neo-soul guitar. My strength will always be the blues guitar. I fell in love with bossa nova and jazz. Always enjoy the beach, cafe and little bit of pop culture. Why not put them all together eh?
Like a soft openning, I have released Coffee Up!, a new single, on the 16 May 2026 via mywebsiteand bandcamp. 19 May 2026, a performance video via myYouTube channel. All of which is live now. So check it out while drinking coffee, at the beach or simply just chilling. The "grand opening" (aka Coffee Up! will be on streaming and other platforms) of Yat Mellow Blues will be on 19 June 2026.
